Lace flower vase.

I had a BALL making this one. Rosettes, 105 year old ancestral laces, silk & embroidery. This frame must be at least 15 years old. I've preserved most of the family heirloom laces in this fashion. I made about 4 more vazes using the remaining family lace I had. My daughter says it wasn't easy photographing them because of the reflective glass.

Houses & village.

At one time I was obsessed with houses. Clusters really intrigue me. There's another image that my daughter still has to upload.
I have a friend in India who bought several of the clusters I'd appliqued & embroidered. Wish I had photos...

Fields, gardens & forest.

The lavender fields & the rose twilight (round frame) have been kidnapped by my daughter & taken away to Richmond, VA. She says she'll be entering them in an exhibition at the Ginter Botanical gardens next year.
The sunflower field, house (with pond & garden) & forest remain with me. I might lose them to her next year, perhaps.
I use a lot of french knots like you can see...

Using the yarn my daughter spun...

I made the 2 pieces above using the yarns that my daughter spun for me on her spinning wheel in the United States (close ups are larger). She intends to get me more the next time she returns. My daughter weaves & spins.

Flowers & fields...

Flowers & fields.
I’ve always had a fascination for flowers, both in their detailed form & in fields. Sunflowers are my special favorites. The vase of sunflowers was juxtaposed in a frame along with hand made laces that belong to my grand mother & her mother!

Birds of different feathers

All of these birds live in my house. Of the hundreds of embroideries I’ve made & sold, the birds continue to remain with me. They’ve thrilled my friends, my nieces & cousins.

Add Image
In this pictures frame I’ve incorporated hand woven brocade as one of the strips. And there's alot of layering with silk & chiffon in the back ground.

Winter lake...
This emboidery has an unusual stillness about it. I made one for my sister where I used the tassles of an old woolen shawl (upside down) for depicting bull rush fronds & water flora!

I shall first post embroideries that recall landscapes and such. All of these were made at different points in the last 10 years or so. They involve different media like threads, yarns & watercolors on silk fabric. Most of them are my interpretations of things I remember or see…
Some of the images are close ups or details of larger works. I’ve tried to post them close together for easy reference.

The lake is a minimalist piece. There are some French knots where the land & water intersect & some simple stitches at the base. The rest are watercolors on silk.
The “sand dune” dune piece was experimentation with color, material & textures. There are various stitches there, as well as watercolors & dried plants! It was a delight to make. This picture frame almost got stolen from my house when a friend decided that she was going to take it with her & not return it till I noticed it was gone (I had a large house & much of my work was on the walls). Of course I noticed…
