Indian Sari Blouses

Above: lower portion of a 'kurta' became a blouse. The eyelet was actually a portion of the kurta that was stained & had to be removed!



Above: A woven 'dupatta' with tassles converted into a sari blouse. Tassles are intact on the sleeves.


Above: Cholis (sari blouses). The emphasis is on the back & sleeves. Some of the backs are original fronts of 'kurtas'.

Above: My daughter wearing a blouse designed by me from antique scraps on her wedding reception. The sari is hand woven with a white gold border.

This is an effort to restoresome of the antique pieces of embroideries & laces(combined with a few made by myself a few years ago)in a form of apliqued collage.This one will be framed for a longer life.

The "saaya" photographed earlier has been cut & the embroideries salvaged,appliqued & framed.

PICTURE FRAMES MADE FOR FRIENDS

I took these photographs of my mother's work while I was in India. The Monsoons were on & it was overcast most of the time. When I came back to the US, I was dismayed to find that the lack of light (& my carelessness at compensating) had caused a lot of the pictures to come out too dark to publish :(
Anyhow, these are the ones where the subject matter, even if not a 100% clear, is still visible.
